School Philosophy "Creativity for Life Through Art & Music Education"

Honolulu Music School
“Music gives us a language that cuts across the disciplines, helps us to see connections and brings a more coherent meaning to our world.”
– Ernest Boyer

There are many practical benefits accruing from music instruction – at any age!  These include development of muscular coordination, increased confidence, reasoning ability, and problem-solving.  Daily practice develops discipline and the problems presented promote creativity in problem-solving.

Studies have proven that, in children, science and math scores are vastly improved as well as school performance in general.

Recent studies have found that music lessons for older individuals have lessened anxiety, depression and loneliness, and also indicate that adults who study creative subjects, even quite late in life, lose fewer brain cells as they grow older.

A love for music nurtures the soul, mind and spirit through its marvelous ability to allow us to touch our inner feeling of “humanity” – it provides many hours of enjoyment to take one beyond the routine of daily life and helps to enhance self-esteem.

Ask Yourself These Questions

  • Have you always wanted your children to get on the “music bandwagon” and benefit from the increased intellectual stimulation which music brings?
  • Do you enjoy listening to music and would you like to learn to play and even create music yourself?
  • Do you want your children to enjoy a “fun” approach to music?
  • Did you take several years of piano lessons as a child?  Have you ever tried to sit down at the piano again, only to be frustrated by the complexities of note-reading and rhythm in the music?
Our school offers instruction in piano, voice, violin, cello, flute, clarinet, guitar, and ukulele.  Group lessons are available in guitar and ukulele, and a children’s choir is also planned for this fall.  All ages are accepted.

Our air-conditioned facility is equipped with a Yamaha grand piano in every studio.  A student/parent lounge and Wi-Fi hookup for homework and study is also available.

Students are encouraged to perform frequently through a series of monthly mini-recitals and workshops, and formal recitals at least four times a year.  They are also encouraged to complete various levels of the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program, and to enter local, regional, state, national, and international competitions.

Parking is readily available, and free to all patrons of Manoa School of Art & Music.
